By Lin Nguyen

It’s no secret that the Money Muse team loves podcasts. They’re a great way to expand your knowledge no matter where you are in your investing journey. From teaching valuable leadership skills to giving data-driven insights on finance, these podcasts have all played a role in making Money Muse what it is today.

Unlocking Us

By listening to Dr. Brené Brown’s podcast exploring ideas, experiences, and stories to help us unlock our best selves, Stephanie gained some necessary skills to launch her business. Being a leader means showing up and being vulnerable, and Dr. Brown teaches her listeners just that by applying her 20+ years studying vulnerability, shame, and empathy in her episodes. Her podcast covers a variety of topics like transgender representation and “The Power of Love'' with Laverne Cox, apologies and healing with Dr. Harriet Lerner, and authenticity with Alicia Keys

Every episode inspires listeners to be open with themselves and be brave. Unlocking Us is unafraid to explore the bounds of human experience and emotions. Dr. Brené Brown shows her readers how to do the same as leaders and in their daily lives.

The Financial Samurai

Sam Dogen has spent 20 years in the finance industry and retired at 34 with $3 million! Now, he uses his knowledge of investing in order to help others with their financial journey. He covers topics such as wealth management, entrepreneurship, real estate, taxes, and family finances. Some takeaways from his website include having a proper asset allocation of stocks and bonds to reduce risk exposure, keeping track of net worth benchmarks based on your demographic, and how financial rules can work or be adjusted based on individual needs.

For Stephanie, she loves that The Financial Samurai is a digestible, data-driven podcast. Sam Dogen goes past basic personal finance rules by doing a deep dive into the ins and outs of each money move. He makes his advice more applicable to individuals. He considers the past, current, and future market trends while adjusting finance rules based on different incomes. As someone who started his blog to help people out of the 2008 financial crisis, his expertise is especially relevant today.

The Fairer Cents

At Money Muse, we’re all about women in the personal finance space, and the Fairer Cents is no exception. The Fairer Cents is produced by two women at different spots in their financial journeys. Kara Perez founded Bravely, and Tanja Hester wrote the book, Work Optional: Retire Early the Non-Penny Pinching Way and the blog “Our Next Life”

The podcast explores personal finance as it relates to women and people of color. Some of their topics include “The Economics of Motherhood”, “The Financial Impact of Beauty Double Standards”, money in relationships, and normalizing money conversations for women. They keep their topics relevant to current events and bring in guests like Kristin Wong to provide additional insight. Check out their podcast to learn more about the intersections of finance and feminism!

The Motley Fool Answers

This podcast covers TONS of money topics from saving to spending to planning! If there’s any topic they’re missing, you can send in questions to be addressed in their monthly “mailbag” episodes. It’s always helpful to hear other people’s questions about money, and the founding brothers Tom and David Gardner recognize that. From the most common investing questions to “How to Marie Kondo Your Money,” this podcast has you covered.

Their recent episode features Bola Sokunbi, the CEO and Founder of Clever Girl Finance. As always, their host, Alison Southwick keeps the episode upbeat and interesting as they discuss current financial reports and Bola Sokunbi’s journey from Nigeria to being a CEO, Certified Financial Education Instructor, speaker, and best-selling author.

The Mad Fientist

The Mad Fientist is a super nerdy, data-driven, financial independence podcast. Don’t be intimidated though! The Mad Fientist provides tons of information and resources to help you out, like spreadsheets, financial independence progress trackers, and money management tools. For those that prefer reading, there are transcripts of his episodes as well.

Some of Stephanie’s favorite artists are featured on the podcast, including Scott Young, who completed MIT’s 4-year computer science curriculum in a year and the writer of Ultralearning: Master Hard Skills, Outsmart the Competition, and Accelerate Your Career. The podcast also features James Clear of Atomic Habits: An Easy & Proven Way to Build Good Habits & Break Bad Ones to discuss building a new identity after retirement.
