A Sneak Peek into The Community

Between a book club, a guest speaker, accountability buddies, guided meditations, and a pajama party, it's been a jam-packed first month in the community! As we jump into August, the Money Muse team would like to reflect on the amazing growth, learning, and connection we experienced during the first month.

This month the community focused on curating a healthy money mindset. Members were asked to reflect on underlying beliefs they have about money, if and how money was discussed throughout their childhood, and how they experience money shame physically in their bodies. Guided by the book of the month, The Art of Money by Bari Tessler, these topics allowed for rich discussion and guided exercises between members.

Members also had the opportunity to explore any guilt or shame they might experience with money through our monthly Lounge + Learn with special guest speaker Lindsay Bryan-Podvin. Didn’t catch our last blog post covering the event? Read it here! And we wrapped up the month by slipping into pajamas, grabbing our favorite beverage, and sharing our greatest takeaways from the book at the community’s most popular offering, the Money Pajama Party.

Who are the community members? They are supportive, hardworking go-getters! What’s more, many of them are fully independent patriarchy-smashers: 79 percent of them are solely responsible for managing their finances. If you aren’t sure where your financial expertise fits in the community, don’t worry! Our members come from all levels of experience with money: 10 percent of members responded that they have no experience with investing, 10 percent responded they have a lot, and the rest fall somewhere in the middle. Wherever you find yourself on this spectrum, the community is a space to learn from and support one another.

At Money Muse, we recognize that it is impossible to talk about personal finance without discussing widespread income inequality, barriers to generational wealth, and pervasive systematic racism. With roughly 33% of members identifying as BIWOC, Money Muse is committed to promoting diversity and inclusion while fostering open and productive conversations about money. Every individual has a unique story relating to money, and the community is a space to share and amplify these diverse stories.

We are kicking off August with Stephanie’s personal favorite topic: investing. Our goal by the end of the month is to help each community member feel confident in their ability to make savvy investments and grow their wealth.
